Postview (PV) Tracking
What is Postview tracking?
Post View is where users have seen an ad and gone on to make a purchase, without clicking on the ad itself. These instances are known as post-impression or post-view conversions, as there is a direct link between viewing the ad and making the purchase.
A Postview cookie is dropped when the banner loads on the users machine. If the user then makes a transaction while the cookie is still present, the order will be attributed to them in the interface. However, when a Post Click cookie is in place the transaction should be attributed to that publisher rather than the Post View publisher. Also, our PV cookie will never overwrite a PC cookie, and they will last a maximum of 2 days.
Publisher References can also be used in conjunction with post view tracking.
Postview Duration
The Postview Duration is the amount of time in minutes a Postview is valid for. This is the time from when the Postview cookie has dropped and the transaction has been made. In order for an advertiser to set a Postview duration on a publisher by publisher basis, we have the Postview Duration field.
In membership details we have a Postview Duration field where a custom duration can be different from the programme default. It can be longer or shorter than the programme default, but it cannot be higher than the Postview cookie. If you need the Postview cookie length to be changed, please contact your account manager to discuss.
For example, you could have the following setup if you want the majority of the programme to not track Postviews apart from a small number of publishers:
- PV Cookie: 1000 minutes
- Programme PV duration: 0 minutes
- Publisher A PV duration: 500 minutes
- Publisher B PV duration: 1000 minutes
If the “Custom Postview Duration” checkbox is unticked, programme default Global Postview Duration will apply.
